“Don’t be so heavenly minded you are no earthly good.”
I remember this line from a sermon my first pastor gave over 20 years ago. It has stuck with me over the years and comes to mind whenever I assess my spiritual life.
While I don’t want to be the spiritual type this quote is speaking about, I also don’t want to be so earthly minded that I am no heavenly good.
In fact, the world is a better place when my mind is aligned with God’s will and purpose for my life. The true phrase should more accurately say:
The more heavenly minded you are, the more earthly good you become!
There are three main disciplines I start with when I assess my spiritual life:
God-given tools for spiritual growth
- Word of God – the Bible
- Spirit of God – prayer and worship
- People of God – Christian support and accountability
For me, I will start the year with a laser focus on the Word of God – to read at least one chapter of the Bible a day. I have been falling behind on my Bible reading and refocusing on this is the best place to start.
Nothing changes if nothing changes!
To enhance my focus I am making a focused change to my morning routine: to read the Bible before I do anything else.
What about you?
- What area of your spiritual life needs the most focus right now?
- What one change would help you focus on that area?
- Will you make that change to help you achieve your God given purpose?
I’d love to hear it!
Love and blessin’s,
Dave
