Not long ago a friend asked me what food I miss the most while traveling. I first thought about the foods that I like: Mexican, chips and dip (kinda Mexican), Chick-Fil-A, Panera, Thanksgiving dinner, etc. Then, I realized what I really like about food. Here was my answer:
My favorite thing about a meal is those around the table. This is why I really like Thanksgiving. It reminds me of the reason I like food: family and friends.
It also reminds me to give thanks. Thanksgiving reminds us that in every circumstance there is opportunity to sit back, look around, and be thankful.
I am thankful for so much: perfect wife, wonderful kids, great family, lifelong friends, amazing work team, wonderful work experiences, a beautiful home, working vehicles, successes and failures, family vacations, board games and movies, and of course, coffee.
I am also thankful for the Kingdom of God…which isn’t common on a “thankful” list.
Therefore, since we receive a Kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude by which we may offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe!” Hebrews 12:28
Here is a little bit of what is packed into this short verse:
- The Kingdom is a gift…an unearned, undeserved gift from God.
- The Kingdom cannot be shaken. This means, you and I cannot mess it up, and neither can anyone else.
- Gratitude is an action to be shown, and is a natural response to the gift of the Kingdom.
- Through gratitude we worship God. Thankful worship brings a fresh fascination of God, and leaves us with a renewed sense of wonder and reverence.
It all starts with gratitude.
This holiday season my family and I wish you and yours a renewed sense of gratitude.
Love and blessin’s,
David
